we speak in tongues of liars
with invented words like
tangled messes left behind
by haphazard thieves.
sinking ships are swallowed
whole by an ocean that hungers
for more than everything.
[and more than it could wish for.
ravenous waves of desperate
compulsion crash around the hulls,
hollowly licking the decks and
going
down.]
syllables shine like blood
s p a t t e r on the walls,
wrapped in warped worlds of
words and tongue-tied letters.
[no number of syllables could
match the music of hearts beating
l o n e l y.]
petrified bones sleep behind the
bruised knuckles that speak
to blackened smiles.
[turn around, close your eyes,
and fall
fall
fall.]
